Position Summary:
An experienced Marine Claims Adjuster with requisite skills in all types of marine and transit claims including cargo, hull, ports & terminals, fine art & specie, and cash in transit. Requires a strong technical knowledge of marine market wordings, clauses and conditions, carriage contracts, international marine conventions, legal principles, and a good understanding of market practices.

General Background, Experience & Professional Qualifications:
- Marine claims specialist, preferably ACII and /or ACILA qualification.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal including an ability to promote insurance solution products to potential clients.
- IT proficient.
- Excellent customer service, organisational & communication skills.
- Experience of interaction with brokers, underwriters, experts and other stakeholders.
- Experience of interaction with global loss adjusters, surveyors, lawyers and other experts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Claims Management – acting for a range of marquee clients in assessing facts and adopting optimum strategies to best assist the client.
- Analysis of legal position on certain active claims and ability to co-ordinate defence or coverage matters with requisite experts.
- Confidence in negotiations with other parties, including potentially opponents.
- Advice re policy interpretation including a variety of marine “all risks” and liability clauses, terms and conditions
- Report writing and communication with clients – keeping clients updated, dealing with brokers, insurers and corporate clients as necessary
- Claims adjustment – collating evidence and establishing quantum, along with ability to prepare and issue cargo claim adjustments
- Instructing and overseeing UK and overseas experts – acting as focal point for client, ensuring information received is clear and contains all pertinent information
- Liaison with the UK Crawford team of expert surveyors
- Manage client diary system – being mindful of strict contracted service level agreements
- Management of client accounts – ensuring compliance with specific account programmes and instructions
- Subrogation – have a good knowledge of subrogation principles and international conventions, and be familiar with time bar limitations to ensure client’s interests are safeguarded.
- Maintenance of Client Systems – adding data/documentation to ensure MI is kept up to date, including financials and client-specific data requirements
- Business Development – building and maintaining good working relationships with clients, brokers and other relevant stakeholders. Optimizing all potential business opportunities – encouraging other team members to raise their profile and market the business in addition.
- Brand Protection – safeguarding and promoting the Crawford brand and in particular the Marine team at all times.

Skills:
- Strong understanding of Marine and Transport Insurance
- Experience and strong knowledge of cargo and freight liability, marine liability, Fine Art & Specie, Cash in Transit, and Ports & Terminal liability claims
- Strong understanding of commercial carriage contracts including international transport conventions
- Good working knowledge of Marine legal principles and the London Market
- High level of experience in the use of London Market systems, including ECF
- Excellent level of written English
- Ability to communicate, empathise and maintain relationships with clients
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
