Job Title:Warehouse Team Leader
Salary: The starting salary is £37,289, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.
The salary is broken down as £34,448 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £36,864 Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: MPS Wide; Crabtree Manorway Belvedere (primary location) and the deep storage in Woolwich.

In Operational Support Services we provide a range of services to the Met, including providing Fleet, Vehicle Recovery, Catering, Travel, Cultural Services, Uniform, ID Passes, Exhibit Management, Records Management and Local support to officers. This is an exciting time to be working as a Warehouse Team Leader for the Metropolitan Police Service. This post will be part of the Warehouse service delivery team delivering support activities to our customers and other business groups. The service we provide covers a wide range of activities defined within the groupings of administration, exhibits, files, uniform and consumables. Some manual work is involved, requiring a good level of physical fitness and agility.
Central Warehouse is located at Crabtree Manor Way Belvedere and our deep storage in Woolwich. This role will mainly be based within the Central Warehouse in Belvedere.
Key Responsibilities:
- The day-to-day management of approximately 10 staff. Including monitoring and authorising annual leave, performance, sickness, attendance and staff development and PDR.
- Provide clear direction through visible, approachable leadership and leading by example following the values and behaviours of the MPS.
- Liaising with stakeholders with regards to exhibits, and collections and other general enquiries, providing customer service to Front Line Policing.
- The main lead for Health and Safety, Firearms management, compliance and Fire regulations within the warehouse.
- Manage transportation of criminal exhibits from stations/buildings and crime scenes to the labs per SOP.
- Management of distribution fleet comprising of 22 vehicles.
- Planning routes for both van and lorries, this will include setting up daily routes and monitor work that may change planned routes, ensuring the most efficient routes achieved taking into account the protocols around the MPS environmental footprint.
- Manage the review, retain and disposal and booking in team.
- Manage exhibits and documentation coming in, to ensure the processes for inputting are followed and constantly reviewed for compliance and efficiencies, to ensure the audit trail is available. Make best use of the latest technology.
- An extensive knowledge of the MPS Property and Exhibits Manual and Transport Services Policy.
- Manage crime scene requests effectively to reduce officer abstraction.
- Being omni–competent within the warehouse. Develop skills across the Warehouse Team Leader function.
- Able to cover the transportation of criminal exhibits, from the MPS stations and crimes scenes to the Labs as per SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), using the relevant software packages in place.
- Organise the delivery of the consumables (stationery, uniform etc) to all MPS sites.
- Managing the risk assessments, audits and compliance for the warehouse.
Additional Information
Successful candidates will be expected to remain in their initial role for 2 years before applying for any other internal roles.
Requires cover between 06:00 to 17:30 this will be managed on a rota basis between the 4 post holders. Flexi time is available. Flexible working patterns will be considered against business need.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Previous experience in warehousing and/or Distribution managerial experience
- Ability to manage and lead staff.
- Good communication skills, face to face and email.
- Excellent IT and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Good organisation skills as well as attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a confident manner and solve problems.
- Problem solving.
- Experience of working in a target driven environment.
- Be forward thinking and proactive in assessing and completing your workload and ability to plan.
- Be physically capable of manual handling.

- European WEEE Directive (Waste electrical and electronic equipment).
- Good knowledge of areas within the M25.

Desirable
- Knowledge of the Non-Police Firearms SOP, and safe working practises around the storage, movement and disposal.
- Understanding of the high-risk items and process for these items with regards to retention and disposal.
- Liaising with 3rd party suppliers, following established processes and ensuring compliancy.
- Working knowledge of the Manufacture and Storage Explosives Regulations 2005.
- Working knowledge of the Handling and transportation of fine art and hazardous goods.
- Working knowledge of applicable SOP modules and Forklift licenses i.e. VNA and Counter Balance.
