Contract Type - Fixed-Term: 24 months
Full-time: 35 hours per week
The Opportunity:
The Almeida lab (https://discovery-brain-sciences.ed.ac.uk/our-staff/research-groups/rafael-almeida) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuron-glia interactions in vivo. The Almeida lab uses zebrafish as a model organism to understand non-synaptic forms of neurotransmission in the developing nervous system. The post-holder will employ advanced gene-editing strategies in zebrafish embryos, coupled with structural and functional live imaging to uncover the molecular basis and influence of neurotransmitter signalling from axons (see PMID 34270947) in neural circuits.
Your skills and attributes for success:
We are seeking a candidate who is curious about the nervous system, driven, committed to scientific discovery and integrity, and happy to integrate a new, dynamic research team. You will have:
• PhD in Neuroscience or a relevant scientific discipline
• Experience in neurobiological research in vivo
• Demonstrable knowledge of statistical analysis skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
