About us
Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Business Support Officer to provide a broad range of corporate support duties to ensure the continued improvement, efficiency and effectiveness of our Business Support Team functions. This is a permanent position and the successful candidate will be based primarily at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, Sterling Road in Kidlington.
We promote flexible and agile working and can be relatively flexible around location and times. This role requires an individual who wants to continually improve and professionally deliver corporate support amongst the service.
About the role
The Business Support Officer will undertake a range of duties commensurate with a Business Support and administration role to assist the service goals and objectives, in accordance with our policies and procedures. They will be required to support organisational and strategic meetings to provide administrative skills such as agenda creation, minute taking and action logging. They will be required to work closely with colleagues in a team-based environment. The role requires organisational skills, flexibility, and confidence in using Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel and the ability to gain knowledge of our additional IT systems.
You will work closely with partner fire and rescue services, emergency services and local authorities. Your role will be to support the Business Support function of the fire and rescue service by assisting with the production and updating of documents, co-ordination of internal communication and engagement platforms, the production of social media content, and co-ordination of FOIs and service complaints, preparing, analysing and distributing reports and information, and taking follow up action where necessary, in a timely manner.
In addition to the above, the Business Support Officer will support leading the Business Support Team. They will also work closely with the Business, Communication and Engagement Manager Team to liaise with staff from many departments from both senior and middle management to Firefighters, Crew and Watch Managers at Fire Stations with regards to communications, Business Support and support in the use of social media systems. There is also a requirement to perform a supporting role with our Thames Valley Local Resilience Forum to provide administrative support during ongoing multi-agency incidents.
About you
We are looking for someone who is confident with providing administration support within an organisation and is quick to learn, preferably with a background in administration and communication or marketing. They should be willing to continually display commitment to their team and service priorities as well displaying innovation and the ability to provide creative responses to varying demands.
Required Skills and Experience:
- An honest individual who is both enthusiastic and passionate about providing support for people.
- A Levels or equivalent qualification(s) with English and Maths at GCSE level (or equivalent standard of education) or comparable ability Proficient in Microsoft Office: Must have experience and proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. These skills are essential for the role and will be heavily utilised in day-to-day tasks.
Desirable Skills:
- Level 4 or equivalent qualification
- Familiarity with internal communications and staff engagement: While not essential, this skill is desirable and can be beneficial in performing the role more effectively.
You will be expected to be a part of a team supporting the delivery of the Service’s objectives and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be required to demonstrate the ability to organise, plan and prioritise your own work and to meet deadlines and targets with minimal supervision.
