The Role

As the Quantity Surveyor (Commercial Manager) you will be responsible for the contractual and commercial elements of several concurrent projects. Key aspects of the remit include:
- Administering and monitoring the specified project contract.
- Ensuring that Darwin Group retain a good contractual, commercial, and high-quality output.
- Conducting feasibility studies, planning applications in strict accordance with the processes and procedures and general best practice.
- Maintaining a good working relationship with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors and the project team by telephone and email.
- Completing Take-offs of projects for cost checking of quotations.
- Control and administration of the project contract.
- Full compilation of contractor work package requirements through consultation with Design management.
- Optimizing cash flow through external valuations and controlling of sub-contractor valuations.
- Preparing and sending out enquiries for competitive quotations on packages.
- Ensuring that the procurement schedule is updated in line with the construction programme.
- Raising Purchase Orders as required in accordance with Company policy.
- Maintenance and control of the income and expenditure account.
- Controlling the variation tracker, ensuring margin control, and maximising profit.
- Control and Submission of monthly valuations in line with contract documents and finance cashflow.
- Liaison and collaborating with the financial team and other divisions within the company.
- Managing cost defects and ensure that retention release is conducted in a timely and accurate manner.
The Person
The successful candidate for the position of QS/Commercial Manager will possess a proven background in Quantity Surveying for construction and the related commercial aspects. You will have demonstrable experience of working under JCT/NEC Contract, a good understanding of market rates and material/labour costs and excellent time management and Co-ordination skills.
The QS/Commercial Manager will have the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines and possess strong negotiating skills, excellent IT skills and be able to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
The role requires travel to and from site and visits to customer sites and events, therefore a valid driving licence is preferred for the role.
