Part time - 20 hours a week
We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Commis Chef to join our wider Commercial and Catering Team at the University of Northampton.
The Commis Chef will be responsible for supporting the Head Chef, working within a multiple of outlets on our fantastic Waterside Campus.
The requirement for this post will be across 7 days including occasional bank holidays & events, with shifts varying from 7am to 10pm. The role will require regular weekend working.
Our customers and students are at the heart of everything we do. You will need to ensure that this is paramount to everything you do.
- Assisting in the food preparation process
- Cooking and preparing elements of high-quality dishes
- Preparing vegetables, meats and fish
- Assisting other Chefs
- Placing orders, handling deliveries deliveries and restocking
- Assisting with stock rotation, cleaning tasks
- Contributing to maintaining kitchen and food safety standards.
We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage. In recognition of this, the salary for this post has been increased to pay the higher amount which currently supersedes the actual Grade 3 salary before living wage which is £20,880 - £22,214 per annum, pro rata.

- Ability to produce good quality food
- Understanding of health and safety
- Understanding of basic food hygiene practices
- Good oral communication
- High level of attention to detail
- Good level of numeracy
- Adaptability to change and willingness to embrace new ideas and processes
- Ability to work unsupervised and deliver quality work
- Positive and approachable manner
- Team player qualities
- Minimum 6 months relevant experience
- Awareness of manual handling techniques
- Awareness of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) and chemical safety
- Experience of kitchen equipment including dangerous equipment such as knives
- Competent level of spoken and written English
