Job description

NEW Communications Lead position Fixed term contract - 6 - 12 months.

Applications close on Monday 24th June 2024 - this is an Urgent hire

Our client is an international Sustainable Finance initiative that was launched in June 2021. Our client's mission is to develop and deliver a risk management and disclosure framework for organisations to report and act on evolving nature-related risks, with the ultimate aim of supporting a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes.

The organisation launched its nature-related disclosure recommendations, along with a set of additional guidance in Q4 2023.  This represents the culmination of a two-year design and development effort by 40 Taskforce members with the support of over 1,200 institutions in their Forum, and 15 Consultation Groups in countries around the world.

About the role

Critical to the Taskforce’s Phase 2 activities in 2024-25 is an experienced communication lead to help scale their engagement of market participants through online and in-person events, communicate our capability building offers as they come online and refine our narrative and messaging based on feedback from market participants.

Key duties

  • Lead the development and delivery of the organisation's  communications activities, including market engagement events (online and in-person) and our engagement with journalists and media;
  • Lead the design and delivery of specific market engagement activities in close coordination with the Director of Market Engagement, including (i) originated events (in person and webinars); (ii) positioning the initiative at/for leading international market and inter-governmental events (in-person and webinars); and (iii) the organisation's participation in 3rd party events on request (in-person and webinars);
  • Oversee the design preparation and production of all external publications, including technical guidance, capacity building and market engagement collateral, including project management of translations 3rd-party contractors;
  • Administer the effective implementation of the organisation's brand and style guidelines and editorial consistency across all media assets and outputs produced;
  • Oversee and manage a small team of colleagues responsible for event management, social media and technical communications writing support to colleagues with market-facing responsibilities within the  Secretariat including the Co-Chairs and Executive Director;
  • Collaborating with the COO and Finance Manager on the annual Communications team budget and forecasting upcoming expenditure.
  • Support the Executive Director in providing strategic communications advice to the Co-Chairs and Taskforce Members, including on media messaging and management; and
  • Managing the daily interface of the Secretariat with a wide range of relationships and networks, including journalists, media partners; and comms leads at Taskforce member organisations, Knowledge Partners and Donors.

As part of a small team, you must be willing to work flexibly and take on additional duties, as required. This role reports to the Executive Director for overall media and communications management, and for design and delivery of market engagement events (online and in-person).  As a general indication, this role will be 70-80% focused on coordinating the organisation's market engagement events and activities and 20-30% focused on media and communications.

This is an exciting and fast paced role, and you must be willing to work flexibly and take on additional duties, as required.

Skills and experience

To flourish in this demanding role, you will be an experienced communications professional with a strong track record. You must demonstrate ability to quickly build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and provide clear leadership to the communications function. You will need to quickly gain the trust of a wide range of global stakeholders. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical, as is an ability to work productively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Essential

You will have a proven track record of delivering effective operational communications functions, as well as building the trust of a wide range of global stakeholders.

To flourish in this role, you will be an experienced communications professional who enjoys managing different priorities and projects simultaneously. You must be comfortable with managing operational delivery across all comms activities and be willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done as part of a small team. The ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and provide clear leadership to the communications function of the Secretariat is also a key requirement.

A strong understanding of, and prior experience in, the field of Sustainable Finance with existing relationships across the climate and nature advocacy and finance space would be a distinct advantage.

Essential

  • Previous experience in managing a communications or a marketing strategy for a cross-sector initiative, ideally in Sustainable Finance.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including drafting of press release and managing interactions with journalists.
  • A thorough understanding of social media best practice.
  • Experience of working in an international context with multiple stakeholders, across cultures and timezones.
  • Experience delivering a programme of events at international conferences and events, such as climate weeks (London, New York, etc) and COP conferences.
  • Capable of delivering a range of communications priorities and events within a set budget, with a focus on quality and project follow-through.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills – a good team player, with low ego, diplomatic and skilled at managing different stakeholder groups.
  • A strong independent work ethic - ability to flourish in a dynamic and demanding work environment as a member of a high-performing, globally distributed team.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile, start-up environment.
  • Familiarity with corporate reporting practices and financial markets.
