Our Mission: Making a Difference for Every Child
We are looking for a Corporate Director for Children’s Services who will provide the leadership to make a real difference for children and families in Tower Hamlets.
Not only will you be a champion for children within the council, but you will lead the partnerships that are key to protecting children from harm, promote their health and wellbeing and deliver effective services to identify and meet their needs.

You will lead and manage three service divisions of the Children’s Services Directorate:
- Our Supporting Families division ensures that families receive the right help at the right time, that children are protected from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and that children in our care receive the highest standards of corporate parenting.
- Our Education division supports schools and settings to enable children to meet all their developmental milestones and realise their potential. It commissions and works alongside the Tower Hamlets Education Partnership, as well as delivering for children and young people with SEND and other vulnerabilities.
- Our Commissioning and Youth division is responsible for integrated children’s commissioning for the council and the North East London Integrated Care Board, the delivery and development of the major investment in the new Young Tower Hamlets offer, as well as delivering our school meals and arts and music services.
Effective engagement and promotion of co-production approaches is key to working with our children, families and communities. This includes working with colleagues in the voluntary, community and faith sectors. You will continue to develop the directorate culture that respects and celebrates diversity and understand the challenges that discrimination and exclusion can create for individuals and families and works to reduce these challenges.
You will working with the Chief Executive and Corporate Directors to implement our corporate aims and ensure financial probity, compliance and transparency. You will promote and embed our corporate parenting responsibilities and contribute to the leadership of the council in a ‘one organisation’ approach.
You will need to develop supportive relationships with the Executive Mayor and elected members to ensure the council and directorate’s strategic priorities are effectively implemented.
We’ll expect you to manage budgets and income delivery targets, ensure opportunities for efficiencies are developed, and drive down spend where appropriate. Promoting equality, sustainability, innovation and an inclusive approach in everything we do, you’ll support organisational change and learning, ensuring positive systems are in place for our services and workforce.
