Job description

We are Centrica! We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising a cleaner, greener future. Working here is #MoreThanACareer - we’re powered by purpose. Together we can make an impact that will truly change tomorrow. Whether you’re developing cutting-edge green tech, helping customers on the front line or simplifying operations behind the scenes.

Your work here isn’t just a job – it’s a mission. We all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future.

Overview
Energy is in our DNA. From supplying the gas and coal that powered the industrial revolution, to becoming the market-leading energy services and solutions company we are today, we've been at the centre of the UK energy industry for over 200 years. Today, we are unique among energy companies in the UK and Ireland, operating across the entire energy value chain through a variety of distinct, but complimentary businesses, all of which share the same purpose – energising a greener, fairer future.

The Role

We have two strong and distinct retail brands in British Gas and Hive, as a Creative Lead you will be the champion and guardian of the creative identity for these brands.

We are looking for a creative visionary, who can inspire other content creators within our organisation, as well as our agency partners, to develop bold and memorable design. Bringing the brands to life across internal and external content and communications.

Working across the group, you will take ownership of the brand guidelines and creative outputs across the British Gas and Hive retail businesses, as well as overseeing any development of the Centrica masterbrand. You will head up an expanding creative team, initially managing two designers and reporting to the Head of Brand.

This is an exciting time to be working in Energy and at Centrica as we both supercharge our ambitions for Net Zero and keep the nation running as the leading energy provider in the UK. As Creative Lead, you will play a key role in shifting perceptions and strengthening the British Gas brand to ensure it reflects the amazing work we do today and our ambition for the future.

Location:

With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. The team tend to spend two days in a London office weekly, with occasional travel to the Head Office in Windsor.

Key accountabilities will be:

  • Set a high bar for quality and creativity and keep raising it, provide Creative Leadership support and guidance across internal teams.
  • Develop clear brand identities and guidelines across British Gas, Hive and Centrica that are understood and used across the business.
  • Develop distinctive brand assets that build brand recognition and equity.
  • Manage and execute design requests across business units, working with internal design support and agency partners.
  • Own projects from concept, through to execution and to delivery of final assets.
  • Develop and run creative forums for review and sign off creatives across the brands.
  • Manage a small team of designers, providing steer and guidance.

Capabilities required

  • Extensive relevant experience in consumer brands.
  • A portfolio of well-conceived and beautifully executed work across a number of channels including digital and social media.
  • Have a strong knowledge of the core Adobe Creative Suite applications and a good working knowledge of other apps including Figma, Sketch and experience with tools like Frontify.
  • Be able to demonstrate a broad palette of design skills, from logos, icons, illustrations, typography, art direction, to animations and other short-form assets for social media.
  • Management experience, comfortable with shaping and leading creative teams.
  • Excellent communicator and able to work with people at all levels.
  • In-house experience preferred.

🌲 We are committed to creating a cleaner and greener future. And we’re making big changes to help us get there. That means cutting customers' emissions and our own to reach net zero. At Centrica we embrace diversity and actively seek to attract individuals with unique backgrounds and perspectives.
