Job description

Applications are invited for the post of Engagement Lead to join Imperial’s new Centre for Sectoral Economic Performance  (CSEP). This is an exciting joint initiative between Imperial’s Faculty of Engineering and the Imperial College Business School to investigate ways of improving the competitiveness of the UK economy and driving economic growth.

The Academics affiliated with the CSEP will work to translate rigorous research into industry sector strategies that address both firm-level and national competitiveness, working with companies across different sectors and their supply chains, alongside the government.

You will lead the development and implementation of the external engagement strategy for the new Centre. This will include designing and delivering the Centre’s communications across all channels, events and policy engagement activity, ensuring that they reach target key audiences successfully and align with the Centre’s strategic goals as well as wider College external engagement activity. You will engage with policymakers and industry at a senior level and form deep working partnerships with relevant sector organisations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead and implement an external engagement strategy – encompassing communications, events and policy engagement - in support of CSEP objectives and aligned with wider work at Imperial.
  • Work with Co-Directors and associated academics to develop content and activity that secures maximum reach and impact.
  • Develop and implement innovative approaches for engagement, making use of digital platforms and face to face activities to expand reach.
  • You will also provide expert advice to the CSEP Co-Directors about policy and industry engagement and support the development and delivery of its future activity.

Full information on duties, responsibilities and criteria can be found in the Job Description.

Essential requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and substantial experience
  • Demonstrable success in developing and delivering policy and public engagement strategies in a research and/or policy-focused organisation
  • Significant work experience in complex impact-focused organisations across policy, business, academic and third sectors.
  • Proven experience in leading external engagement activities, with demonstrated impact
  • Significant experience in designing and delivering effective communication across a range of channels, events and policy engagement activity
  • A strong understanding of the role of universities and research organisations in shaping public policy debates
  • Experience of managing a complex workload
  • Experience of initiating collaborations with corporate, academic, government or charitable partners
