Financial Controller

Based in Northampton, Northamptonshire our award-winning client is looking for a Financial Controller to join the team on a permanent, hybrid-working basis, with 3 days required in the office per week.

This role would suit an ACA/ACCA qualified accountant who is from an audit background looking for their 2nd role out of practice. They will be responsible for supervising and reviewing the financial month end close process for the business with particular focus on meeting reporting deadlines and other work performed by junior members of the team.

The successful individual will be ACA/ACCA qualified with previous experience of managing a team. They will have experience working with group consolidations, accounts preparation audit in either practice or industry. IFRS/FRS/UK GAAP experience is also essential. Good technical accounting knowledge as well as modelling is also required for this role. Sage X3, ZAPP, VENA systems experience is desired, but not essential.

Duties will include:

• Review the financial month end close process for the business group with particular focus on meeting reporting deadlines and review of journal postings and other work performed by junior members of the team.
• Develop plans to significantly reduce the time taken to complete the month-end process and reporting outputs
• Lead and manage 3 direct reports and overall assist the junior members of the team whenever required
• Identify and assist with the implementation of systems and processes to automate and develop the finance controls team strategy
• Develop and maintain the Group accounting policies in line with FRS 102 to keep abreast with changes in accounting standards
• Key contact for external auditors and liaising with auditors to ensure timely completion of the group legal entities statutory accounts
• Support the design and implementation of a robust control environment focussed on risk management and strong internal control framework
• Deliver new ways of working, with the ability to challenge the status quo through the use of initiative, creativity and innovative thinking.
• Personal credibility as the leader, with the ability to provide strong leadership, motivation and direction for junior members of the team.
