About the job

Job summary

Operating at the heart of government, the Cabinet Office is a vibrant and diverse place to work. We support the Prime Minister and ensure government runs effectively. We are also the corporate headquarters for government, in partnership with HM Treasury, and we take the lead in certain critical policy areas. This means that the Cabinet Office’s work is far reaching, providing an interesting and varied workload.

The Cabinet Office People & Places team partner the people who run Government and deliver on the most challenging change agenda. Our clients shape our country: influencing strategy, overseeing Government’s major projects, transforming how government runs and developing our functional agenda, to name just a few examples. We partner a rich mix of business units and have HRBP vacancies in high-profile areas.

We are looking for HR professionals to join our fast paced HR team. This is a unique opportunity to partner some of the most senior people in the Civil Service about some of the biggest issues for the UK.

The Cabinet Office offers an excellent environment for learning and development as an HR professional, with a strong commitment to continuing professional development and demonstrating best practice from across Government and the private sector. You will have regular contact with the wider HR team, which is regarded from within as a great place to work and has strong levels of commitment and engagement. We have a strong track record of accelerating HR professionals to the next level.

Job description

You will need to use your Business Partner expertise to gain credibility from day one, enabling you to operate as a member of the senior management team. You will be solutions-focused, able to deliver at pace and confident to challenge at senior levels.

The role offers the full HRBP remit, ranging from strategic workforce planning, advising on organisational and structural change and performance and senior talent management activities, translating business needs into HR solutions. You will use business data and insight to inform the design, development and implementation of HR activities.

Highly business and client-focused, you will have a proven track record of establishing personal credibility through effective delivery. You will also be able to demonstrate excellent relationship management skills and have the ability to coach and influence at senior levels.

You’ll be excited by the work that they do and want to learn more about it. You’ll have a great sense of how to use HR policies and interventions to deliver the best for those business areas and be able to build strong and trusted relationships with the directors who lead those areas. You will therefore be confident in championing these across the organisation.

You will employ strong analytical skills, undertake research and liaise with colleagues, specialists and stakeholders from across the Civil Service and beyond, to ensure the Cabinet Office is able to utilise modern HR practices and systems to increase efficiency and effectiveness. You’ll regularly present your findings back at team and group meetings and be comfortable in speaking in front of groups of people.

For those based from the Glasgow office some travel may be required to London. Please state your location preference.
