Senior Sales Manager, The Sun Publishing Team

12 Month FTC

The Team:Be part of a team and brand that is continually evolving. Sun Publishing sits within the Sun Business Unit at News UK. It is responsible for the sales, operations and commercial product strategy and partnerships for The Sun media brand and its platforms.

The Sun Publishing Sales team in a multi disciplined way to create compelling advertising solutions that drive revenue for our business and results for our clients. 

Your Role: 

The Sun is at the heart of the nation’s conversation blending serious investigations, agenda setting campaigns, political scoops and celebrity gossip. 

We have built our audience growth strategy around our clear vision that puts content at the centre. We want to prioritise developing content that serves specific content communities and which informs and entertains more people on a wider variety of subjects.

You will sell market-leading solutions around The Sun’s content to some of the biggest brands in the UK. Working across all of The Sun’s platforms your daily conversations will cover digital and print display, branded content, video and social and the different ways we transact our media via direct and premium programmatic channels. 

The Role:

  • Develop a deep understanding of The Sun brand and an analytical approach to News UK’s first party data offering applying this to data-led advertising solutions that are simple yet sophisticated. 

  • Is able to develop and maintain influential connections with senior agency stakeholders - levels are ‘Heads of’ across all media channels - Digital, Programmatic, Publishing, Investment, AV,  Social -  up to Client Managing Partners.  

  • Is able to understand the strengths of our media platforms versus other media channels and able to influence the planning of budgets towards The Sun’s platforms. 

  • Independently drives positive change within agencies by arranging regular brand sessions that deliver highly relevant and engaging session content, drawing on internal stakeholders and talent to deliver content as required. 

  • Can independently devise specific sales strategies and then mobilise internal teams as required to lead the development and delivery of commercial solutions

  • Ability to lead response and management of high profile partnerships & tenancies, both incumbent and proactive 

  • Deputises for Group Sales Director(s) on internal and external meetings, reinforcing leadership across the immediate and wider sales teams in GSD’s absence. 

  • Define growth objectives for the agency portfolio through an articulate business plan with focus on winning new digital business and ensuring our print clients are also transacting with us through direct or premium programmatic channels.      

  • Work collaboratively with Ad Operation teams to ensure we deliver campaigns correctly, on time, optimising digital performance. 

  • Deliver excellent customer service through the sales cycle from prospecting, during the campaign period, through to post campaign analysis.

  • Produce accurate analytical and financial information when requested.  Maintain accurate Salesforce records and collaborate effectively with other departments through CRM.

  • Maintain a strong awareness of competitor activity and build peer-to-peer contacts across competitors. 

What we’re looking for from you: 

  • Proven track record of sales leadership and success within a media sales environment.   

  • Deep understanding of agency structures, different buying processes and a broad contact base.

  • Strong understanding of all digital and print media types: display, branded content, social, programmatic and operational delivery

  • Strategic mindset, ability to interrogate briefs effectively and constructively criticise where necessary to elicit more pertinent information

  • Big picture thinking - confidence to work with other News UK brands and personnel outside of day-to-day roles where necessary to deliver incremental revenue

  • Tenacity in sourcing new potential clients, influencing buying decisions and strong experience in negotiation.

  • Ability to utilise media research and measurement systems (Pamco, IPSOS, NRS, TGI, AdIntel) with confidence.   

  • Experience working within a changing environment with a positive approach to new opportunities.

  • A real curiosity and understanding of the role news brands play in society and the media landscape.
