About ACAA:
The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) is an award-winning British charity based in London and established in 2000 with a long history of delivering advice, support and integration support for refugees and asylum seekers across the UK. ACAA was founded by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, who arrived as a refugee in the back of a refrigerated container with his young family in 1999.
ACAA has a solid reputation for high quality, culturally sensitive services based on utilising the lived experience of its’ Director, Trustees, staff and volunteers. Most recently, ACAA has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services and the Founder Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi has received both the British Citizens’ Award and the MBE.
Our core services include:
- Education, training and development opportunities – ESOL for Integration, Supplementary Schools, Digital Education, STEM (coding, animation), business and employment advice and support, assistance with financial issues, benefits issues, CV and Cover letter writing workshops, practice Job Interviews, support with digital skills,1:1 pastoral support, Volunteering and Work Placements, Job Brokerage
- Women’s outreach and women-only projects – empowerment, development, advice and support
- Legal and advice clinics to Advice Quality Standard and OISC accreditation, using volunteers and pro bono solicitors, focusing mainly on immigration, housing, business and employment issues
- Social and cultural activities and events promoting community cohesion, music and fitness, volunteering
- Football, Cricket, Yoga and Zumba sessions for disadvantaged and socially excluded Muslim girls and women
Project Summary:
To support refugee and migrant girls in Wembley, aged 8-12 to develop their participation in football every week. The project will enable them to develop football skills and knowledge, participate in games, and socialise in a female-only culturally appropriate ambience. This project will enable refugee girls, often excluded from mainstream sport, to play football for their physical and psychological health.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build partnerships with local Sports clubs, youth centres, schools, colleges, mosques and community groups to develop referral and signposting relationships.
- Outreach and brand exposure is a central part of the role. The Coordinator will conduct and oversee outreach, as well as liaise with outreach officer, external agencies and community centres to publicise the project in Wembley and recruit participants.
- Administer data monitoring and evaluation of the project
- You will recruit a qualified sessional female coach to work with the Project Coordinator deliver the outcomes of the project.
- You will secure the venue for sessions
- You will create publicity materials for the project
- You will recruit volunteers
- Fundraising to sustain and expand the project
The post holder will work together with the coach, under direct supervision from the Director and will collaborate with other ACAA staff.
