Job description
The post holder will work as a member of the nursing team under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse in Silvertown ward. They will undertake delegated personal care duties for patients / clients and will provide support for Nursing staff in maintaining a stable and safe clinical environment. They will assist in the running of the ward, working with indirect supervision from a Registered Nurse.
• Assist in the direct care of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Working with indirect supervision from a Registered Nurse
• Courteously receive patients, relatives and visitors onto the ward
• Act as an advocate for patients, protecting their rights, privacy and dignity.
• Independently provide a high standard of care to patients under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse.
• Once assessed as competent: independently do patient observations like blood pressure measurements, checking of pulse, oxygen saturation and blood glucose measurements.
• Report any change in a patient’s condition to the supervising nurse or nurse in charge. Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and other staff, as directed by the supervising nurse or nurse in charge.
• Act as a chaperone to patients/clients and accompany them to other wards or departments maintaining their privacy, dignity and safety always.
• Undertake Basic Life Support when required (after training and assessed as competent)
• Always maintain patient confidentiality, only providing patient information under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the ward / hospital environment, thus contributing the control of infection.
• Undertake other duties as directed, such as cleaning, storing and checking of equipment and maintaining storage areas in an orderly manner. Contribute and participate as a positive, constructive member of the team.
