Our client is seeking a dynamic Principal Mechanical Engineer to join there team and take a leadership role in driving excellence in Mechanical Engineering solutions. As the Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, regulated, and quality-assured engineering solutions, preferably within the nuclear industry.
Key Qualifications:
- Academic: Bachelor Honours Degree
- Professional: Chartered Engineer
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years within the last 10 years in roles demonstrating a strong engineering knowledge base.
- At least 2 years of recent experience within the last 5 years in regulated and quality-assured systems, preferably in the nuclear sector, showcasing professional engineering judgment.
- A minimum of 1 year in the last 3 years in a role emphasizing design as a significant component.
Specific Expertise:
- Demonstrated expertise in specialized areas relevant to the engineering discipline, with a proven track record of successfully applying this knowledge.
- Ability to provide leadership within an engineering function and effectively manage resources and expertise.
- Proven experience influencing professional engineers in defining, implementing, and delivering engineering work packages.
- Strategic insight derived from project knowledge across a portfolio, facilitating informed guidance for projects and programs.
Key Competencies:
- Management: Monitor project hours against budget, manage technical staff, oversee the supply chain, and assess the impact of design changes.
- Commercial: Lead functional estimates and tender returns, evaluate subcontractor bids, and possess awareness of various contract models.
- Documentation: Develop technical specifications, capture requirements, and provide design justifications.
- Legislation: Familiarity with relevant regulations such as Supply of Machinery Regulations, CDM Regulations, PUWER Regulations, and LOLER Regulations.
- Design: Proficiency in equipment types, verification, adherence to project programs, understanding ALARP in the nuclear context, compliance approvals, risk management, and adherence to appropriate standards.
- Manufacturing: Experience in manufacturing design, functional testing, on-site testing, commissioning, and production of substantiation scoping calculations.
