About the Role

As Content Editor you will be responsible for managing day-to-day incoming content to architecture.com. Adding value to every page before it’s published, using your skills in proofreading, copywriting, and SEO, you’ll ensure all our content meets the highest editorial and technical standards.

We’re looking for someone who has worked in digital content management and is familiar with prioritising multiple incoming requests.

This role is crucial in keeping the content production process moving, and would suit someone who thrives on hard work, at a fast pace and in a busy but productive digital environment.

Responsibilities

This role will share responsibility for content requests and content production - not just making sure that content requests have a clear user need, brief and help deliver organisational objectives, but also that they are planned into the team's workflow, timelines are realistic and outcomes are measurable.

Checking web pages for grammar, SEO best practice, compliance with our style guide, checking links, resizing and naming images and making sure the content submitted is correct, the Content Editor will then publish the page. This often involves discussion or advice for the person submitting the content, and a daily check-in with the Content team about what requests are coming in.

The Content Editor will also work on wider content tasks and small projects, such as setting up playlists, light editing and publishing videos for RIBA’s YouTube channel, resizing images using Photoshop or other image applications, advising on graphics or assisting with audio content.

The Content Editor will be supported by our two Content Leads and Content Editor, who will train them in all of our systems and processes, and they will be managed by the Head of Content.

They will work with every team across the organisation to publish their content, including Marketing, Comms, Awards, Policy and Public Affairs, Membership Experience, Products and Services, RIBA Journal, Practice, Public Programmes and Education.

A bit about the content production process at RIBA

We use Sitecore CMS, but only the Content team is trained in how to use this. In order to submit their content, contributors from across the organisation submit their web pages, changes and content additions via a ‘bridging’ tool called GatherContent, which we then import into Sitecore.

We use a Service Desk where contributors log their content additions and other content requests. These could be web pages to be made in Sitecore (by the Content team), telling us about a bug, editing and publishing a video to YouTube or requesting digital analytics to see how a piece of content has been performing.

We’re currently working on an exciting project which will transform the website and digital experience for our users, and we will build this using a new CMS called Umbraco.

What are we looking for?

  • An intelligent visual and verbal communicator.
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to produce creative and innovative copy and an understanding of creating content for different audiences
  • Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS) in a digital environment
  • Digital content expertise, a forensic editorial eye, diplomacy and a robust approach to planning, prioritising, and self-direction, especially at times of heightened team busyness
  • A grasp of digital best practice gleaned from editorial projects, grappling with a fiddly content management system and exposure to generating and analysing user data
  • An ability to use digital analytics to understand and improve performance of digital content
  • Experience in resizing images and ability to learn how to edit video content
  • Good time-management and organisational skills; in particular, comfortable with meeting challenging deadlines
  • A Problem-solver and someone who thrives on clearing a backlog day to day
  • Great stakeholder management skills, diplomacy and a willingness to collaborate and to learn

Our team are based across the country, so most of our work together is done online. We work in a hybrid way and your salary would correlate to where you are based and the proportion of work you’ll do in our headquarters in London.

If you would like to apply for the position, please view the full job description below (found at 'supporting documents') and submit your CV and covering letter using the form below. Additionally, please ensure that you complete our Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form which will be submitted separate from your application.

Closing date: 23 April 2024
Interview date: 29 April - 1 May 2024

Due to high volumes of applications we are unable to respond to everyone, however, should you be shortlisted for interview we will be in touch.  We may also close an advert earlier than the date above if we receive enough quality applications.

Please note that you must be able to demonstrate that you have the Right to Work in the UK.  We are unable to proceed with any candidates who cannot show the relevant documentation so please only apply if you meet these criteria. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship.

The RIBA aims to be an inclusive employer, committed to building an authentic and diverse environment where all are encouraged to be themselves. We champion work/life balance and welcome requests for flexible working across our organisation. We value applications from all sections of society and appreciate divergent experience, therefore if you are excited about the role and working with us, yet your experience may not align perfectly with every single skill or competency, we encourage you to apply anyway.
