Job Introduction

As part of the ‘Simplify, Clarify, Same everywhere’ directive, the assurance team have an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of consistent business and governance processes for the Commercial function, develop a revised and centralised training programme and the continued assurance to ensure/validate improvements are being made.

You will also provide Quantity Surveyor duties on projects to protect the company’s interest and deliver tender margin-plus with effective cost and value management.

Main Responsibilities
  • Supporting/Leading the Development of Commercial Processes specific to the SCS Project.
  • Inputting to the development of Governance Processes.
  • Developing Cost Control and Reporting practices to be implemented across the SCS Project.
  • Creating and supporting the roll-out of Training Material in relation to SCS processes and NEC contracts.
  • Leading the CEMAR Superuser community to ensure a consistent approach to contract administration across the portfolio of Subcontracts.
  • Ensuring Commercial Assurance reporting is maintained accurately and timely to SCS Management.
  • Ongoing liaison with site teams, and commercial teams, to ensure Commercial Assurance Actions are demonstrably closed out.
  • Provide contractual advice to the project / site teams as and when appropriate.
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.
  • Develop junior members of team.
The Ideal Candidate

As a result of the above, there is the requirement to grow the Commercial Assurance team. We are looking for Project Quantity Surveyor's who have the following attributes:

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related construction subject
  • Critical thinking mentality.
  • Ability to develop arguments and challenge thought processes.
  • An interest in commercial assurance and appreciation of its intentions and benefits.
  • Ability to take a strategic and long-term view.
  • General interest in the development/improvement of commercial processes.
  • Appreciation for big data, the power and efficiencies that can be gained from it.
  • Passion for developing and training the future commercial generation.

Ideally, the candidate brings along experience of managing suppliers/subcontractors and possesses demonstrable experience or knowledge of the NEC3 suite of contracts.

Essential:

  • Relevant Degree (equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel.

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
