Post can be fully home-based
Needed 2 or 3 days per week.
Be a key member of the Commercial team, responsible for providing a comprehensive advice and drafting service on contracts, agreements and procurement issues.
Deal with company, commercial, partnership, unincorporated bodies, trusts, and associated matters for the Council and external clients. Help with other areas of the work of the Commercial Team and Legal Services as may be required. Assist in the management of the Commercial Team and contribute to the overall management of Legal Services
Key Responsibilities:
Advise on, draft and amend agreements, contracts and other legal documents.
Advise on procurement procedure and issues and draft or amend relevant documentation.
Deal with company and commercial matters, including companies searches, formation, responsibilities, local authority trading, partnerships, joint ventures and other arrangements with outside bodies.
Deal with partnership, joint working agreements and other arrangements with outside bodies.
Deal with issues relating to the constitutions of unincorporated bodies.
Deal with the formation of trusts and issues concerned with the management of trusts.
Advise on issues relating to contractual and procurement disputes and any litigation that arises and to work jointly with colleagues in dealing with such litigation.
Attend and present cases (subject to rights of audience) at courts, panels and hearings, as required
Keep under review, research and advise on factual and legal matters (including the impact of new legislation and cases) so far as it relates to the job purpose.
Provide a strategic and proactive legal service within the remit of the job purpose, by seeking to anticipate issues and become involved with ideas, initiatives and projects at an early stage.

Qualifications:
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Fellow of Institute of Legal Executives or a Licensed Conveyancer with a current practising certificate and with rights of audience
Knowlegde:
Knowledge of procurement and relevant issues
Approximately 2 years post qualified working knowledge/ experience of the following:
Advising about and drafting contracts and agreements
Dealing with company formations, company law and commercial matters
Experience:
Experience of Construction - JCT and NEC
Approx. 2 years’ experience of interpreting legislation, case law, policy or procedures to give recommendations and advice
Approx. 2 years’ experience of effective negotiating, influencing and persuading to reach satisfactory outcomes
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent client care skills and ability to work to a highly professional standard at all times and including on complex and innovative matter
Ability to summarise and interpret complex and conceptual matters to aide others’ understanding and aimed at their needs
Ability to work as part of a team, sharing tasks and providing cover as necessary
Ability to use appropriate styles and arguments to influence and negotiate satisfactory outcomes
Ability to solve problems and make difficult (good call) judgments
Able to prioritise workload and to plan and allocate tasks to meet deadlines
Ability to work to broad policy guidelines and to use discretion and act on own initiative as required.
Ability to regularly give advice and guidance, including demonstrating duties, instructing and checking the work of others
Ability to listen and communicate both orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences (including ability to write clear and concise reports & presentations)
