Your new role
National Highways are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team in Bristol. As part of the role, you’ll proactively lead the Regional Operations Centre (ROC) ensuring the South West strategic road network is performing optimally.
The role, based in the ROC is a safety critical role, taking accountability for the resolution of incidents on the network whilst managing resources and stakeholders resulting in providing the best possible customer experience.
This is a 24/7 role, with a team of Operations Managers working a shift pattern so you will need to live within 1 hour commute of the ROC.
What you’ll be leading on
- 24/7 operational leadership providing strategic direction and coordination of resources to minimise the impact of planned and unplanned events on customers and stakeholders
- Proactively managing the region’s network performance against agreed targets and performance indicators and take action to mitigate known risks including planned events and severe weather
- Acting as National Highways Tactical Commander during critical incidents, making sure plans are in place and actions taken to ensure effective and safe resolution of network issues, proactively informing and assuring senior management as required
- Building effective partnerships and relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (e.g. regional emergency services) to enable the ROC to be more effective in operating alongside stakeholders
- Line managing a team of control room operators and taking responsibility for their performance and continued development
- Taking ownership of projects which impact on the performance of the ROC and wider business
To be Successful
- Experience of leading a safety critical and customer focused operational environment
- Experience of making and taking accountability for time critical decisions, balancing safety, customer needs and operational challenges
- Operationally competent in incident and crisis management
- Experience of leading and managing high performing teams, with a proven record of driving best practice and continuous improvement, including embedding safety across all areas of responsibility.
- Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, third party contractors and external supply chain
- Be able to demonstrate role model behaviours, high standards and excellent communication skills
